Pic The Poster
The next time you see the conference poster think: CHOCOLATE! Take a picture of yourself (or a friend) in front of the CREATIVEMIX poster then upload it to the Facebook Page or tweet it out with BOTH hashtags #creativemix and #minkchocolates. Your picture enters you into a draw for a yummy gift from Mink Chocolates! This contest closes October 15th at 11:59pm. Our favourite flavour is Navel Gazing – what’s yours?

If you’re new to the site or are looking for a quick snapshot of what November 4th is all about:

Creativity Rocks
CREATIVEMIX is about the process of making, and making a living from, ideas. This conference is for everyone who depends on their creative output – whether it’s a small or big part of your work. So often “creatives” gather to hone their technical craft; however, skills are simply not enough. By leaving your skills at the door and focusing on expanding your creativity, you’ll gain inspiration and a new mindset around this invaluable medium. This conference will give you the best of both worlds: a jolt of creative energy and new tools to bring your ideas into reality.

Collaboration Rules
CREATIVEMIX is about creating within the context of community. Creative people often work in isolation but to be successful we need to share and connect with likeminded people. The program will consist of two engaging workshops and 8 inspiring keynote presentations by Vancouver-based creative leaders who will unpack the goods on how to foster and manage creativity, fan new ideas into fruition, and promote the cross-pollination of creative concepts. And it doesn’t stop there: The exhibition space is packed with displays of creativity and the MIX Lounge is an awesome place to, well… mix. Learning and interacting with these creative leaders means that you’re experiencing, and contributing to, the creative mix of Vancouver.

Thursday, September 16th, 2010

In about two weeks we’ll be spreading the word with this groovy poster! We’re really excited about the look and feel of this year’s design as it’s playful, eye-popping, and gives passer-byers a great snapshot of what to expect. If you want a poster of your own simply reach out and ask otherwise, keep an eye out for them and be sure to point at it and say in your outside voice “WOW! CREATIVEMIX! Neat. I’m going to go to that cool looking conference!” Thanks to the team at Hangar 18 Creative Group for their inspiration and effort in making this stunning visual tool.

CREATIVECALL
Win a Display Space in the Creative Exhibition

Promote your creative project or venture November 4th, 2010 at CREATIVEEX, the exhibition at CREATIVEMIX – Vancouver’s annual ideation and creative collaboration conference.

We’re looking for proposals from creative people who want to showcase their creativity and innovation in an engaging and interactive environment. If selected, you will get to use one of ten 10‘x10’ display walls, and will be given two conference passes, a dedicated page on the conference website, a special feature on both the blog and e-mail newsletter, and be interviewed on the main stage. This exhibition package is valued at $800.

This ain’t no tradeshow – it’s more like an art show meets grade 6 science fair meets idea expo meets artsy-fartsy meet-up with you at the centre of it all! The proposal process is very simple – read more about The Creative Call on the Exhibition page.

CREATIVEWORK
Getting Down to Business

An awesome change to the 2010 program has been the addition of workshops. We’ve got two interactive sessions planned: Ideas+Collaboration and Action+Planning. Read more on our Workshops page.

creativemix_mini-posterHave you seen the poster? We’ve been spreading the word in lots of ways but this one has been the most fun so far (AKA the blender fish). Other than the fact that it’s a bit sadistic it’s been really effective – it’s catching people’s eye and getting them to stop for a moment, read the details, and it’s sticking in their heads. What else could we ask for? We wanted to make sure we didn’t create a bunch of waste so we only printed 400 posters and we have been placing them in locations where community or poster boards are managed (that’s right, no phone polls, mailboxes, or construction walls) which works out well because one poster will last 2 or 3 weeks verses 2 or 3 hours.

It hasn’t exactly been all peachy keen however. I was talking about CREATIVEMIX with someone at a party last week and when I mentioned the poster they responded with: “Oh, that’s you?! I’ve seen that poster! I really liked it, in fact, I’m thinking of buying a new blender.” I guess you can’t win them all.

Anyway, if you see one of our posters do this: stop, point, and yell “What a great poster! What a cool conference! I’m going to visit double u double u double u dot creative mix dot C A right now!” You won’t look like a dork at all.

A special note for Diane Haynes: no goldfish were hurt in the making of this poster.
