Helping Us Say Thanks

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

This is a quick shout out to three of our supporters who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Our friends at Opus Framing & Art Supplies, Libre Tea, and Ethical Bean are helping us say ‘thanks’ to our amazing volunteers this year. The people behind these awesome companies are generous and kind and our partnership in this event is invaluable. We’re pretty militant about thanking people around here and they all jumped at the chance to lend their support of CREATIVEMIX 2010 and the people who make it happen. They’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty and have donated some really nice items for our volunteer gifts. So… I’m thanking them for helping us thank our team. Thanks again.

Ethical Choice for your Coffee App

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

If you’ve got iPhone then you’ve probably got a lot of apps – but what about one for your coffee?

Well, how about this for a little creative story-telling (and a clever marketing tool)! Our friends at Ethical Bean Coffee have gone hi-Tech when it comes to their packaging. Ethical Bean Coffee latest coffee packaging and design is absolutely unbelievable! Each bag of coffee is equipped with its own unique 2D barcode which can be scanned using a free Ethical Bean iPhone app or entered manually on their website.

This crazy-cool feature gives us the opportunity to watch interviews with farmers, look up cupping notes and roast profiles, and Google Map each bag’s beans down to the exact field they were grown in, all from the grocery aisle. Awesome!

In a market that is flooded with ‘fair-trade-washing’ I really like this idea because it shows a whole new level of transparency and it provides me with an interesting story about the beverage I take nearly as seriously as communion (multiple times a day to… don’t read into that to much).

I know what you’re thinking, that it’s over the top. Well, hold on there techno-bum, we’re already label-conscious, why not be source-conscious? And why not make it as easy as possible? I get it, and I like it.

Wanna go for coffee? There’s an app for that.

Building a Buzz

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

CoffeeSleeves-smallThe buzz is building around CREATIVEMIX  – literally. As we all know, a lot of creative people drink coffee so we’re spreading the word about the conference using 100% recycled coffee sleeves. Saul Brown . . . you’d be proud of us.

Custom coffee sleeves are a surprisingly untapped method of advertising and we think they’re a perfect fit. What we like about this is that they’re useful. And when it comes to approaching cafes, it’s a pretty easy ask since we’re helping them save money. One thing is for sure – there’s just too much collateral out there filling our mail boxes, sitting on window sills, or cluttering up retail checkouts. We don’t want to add to that chaos. And the impression statistics on coffee sleeves are solid: the average to-go coffee is in use for 45-180 minutes and is seen by 7-10 people, not to mention that it’s being groped!

Thanks to the following establishments for carrying our sleeves last week: Boulangerie La Parisienne, Chez Faye Cafe, Urban Fare, Scuie, Cito Espresso, Raw Canvas, Beans, Wicked, Solley’s Bagels, Caffe Express, Blenz, Cafe O, and Nester’s Market. CREATIVEMIX sleeves will be in more cafes around the city in the coming weeks so be on the lookout (and if you know a cafe owner who would be into carrying them, please feel free in introduce us).

Registration Announcement: Today is the last day to register at the discounted price. You’ll save $20 if you register before midnight tonight. To register, please visit our page.
