Giveaway! The Accidental Creative

Monday, October 17th, 2011

Warning – this is a *shameless promotional stunt – but I think you’ll really like it. Leave a comment on this blog post and you’ll be entered into a draw for a complimentary copy of Todd Henry’s new book The Accidental Creative.

But it’s not that easy. Your comment must include a tip, or a suggestion, about how to keep yourself awake and alert while staying up late to work on a project. You know… tips like, “I smack my forehead with a ruler every 9-minutes” or “I do push-ups but lick the carpet every third one”… or maybe something less violent or disgusting. Whatever you do to burn the midnight oil we want to hear about it :)

This book is ideal for a wide range of people. Seriously. That being said, creative professionals and artists alike will benefit that much more. Being creative on-demand is no simple task, Todd Henry makes creative work easier and that’s a huge relief. It’s a very well-written book. His insights and action steps are like a guiding force, or should I say a “secret weapon”, for those of us who have to be inspired and productive. It’s an extremely thorough book and in my mind is like a business how-to book, meets textbook, meets self-help book, and it has bible-like qualities when it comes to how we work and live within the creative process. This book is a must-have. – Corwin Hiebert, Reviewed on Amazon.ca

*Cuz’ hey, when you’re trying to promote a conference WITHOUT posters or flyers or printing of any kind you’ve gotta do whatchya gotta do. So what’s your red-eye’d tip?

Just Call Him Bruce

Thursday, October 13th, 2011

Bruce Haden has been added to the keynote roster!

Bruce’s architectural and urban design work has been recognized globally (because he’s a big deal), particularly for the Governor General’s and World Architecture Festival winning design of the Nk’Mip Desert Cultural Centre in Osoyoos (because it’s awesome). He has extensive experience in institutional, social services, residential, retail and First Nations projects (we’re okay with a little bragging) with work ranging widely from wastewater treatment plants (yuk) to cafes (yum).

FYI – Next week we’ll start talkin’ up our exhibitors so stay tuned! And if you dig the fact that we’re promoting the conference without the use of posters or printing of any kind… please help us spread the word by emailing your friends and co-workers (or “like” and “tweet” us) – thanks!

marketing fails contest

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Our promotional partner Sayvee has kicked off a cool contest! Here’s a chance to channel those negative marketing thoughts, which we all have (kind of like I did with my promo fail post). The object is to create a video under 1 minute in length about a marketing fail of some kind. This can be a true story or a fictional / ridiculous idea. Videos can be in any style you want. (Examples: comic, drawing, you in front of a camera, re-enactments etc.). Be creative. It turns out I’m a judge so don’t hold back – I love the wacky stuff.

The prizes are:
1st ($1100 – priceless value)
* iPad
* Website with domain name, hosting, and 1 year membership (Sayvee)
* A personalized “thank-you, you’re awesome” video posted on Youtube which includes an object of your choosing to be thrown at the guys from Sayvee and myJPscion.com (be kind please, no permanent damage desired)

2nd ($300 value)
* iPod Touch

3rd ($110 value)
* 1 ticket to CREATIVEMIX-Vancouver’s Ideation Conference
* a ride in a 2011 Scion xB to and from the event (airport kinda thing)

Top 3 most “LIKED” videos will be brought before judges on Oct. 29 @ 9am PST based on creativity and humor. Winner will be announced on Nov. 1, 2010 @ 11:11am PST. Open to anyone in Canada & USA. No porn or really foul language please.

View all entries on their Facebook Page / Upload your video. All the submission details are on Sayvee.com.

CREATIVECALL
Win a Display Space in the Creative Exhibition

Promote your creative project or venture November 4th, 2010 at CREATIVEEX, the exhibition at CREATIVEMIX – Vancouver’s annual ideation and creative collaboration conference.

We’re looking for proposals from creative people who want to showcase their creativity and innovation in an engaging and interactive environment. If selected, you will get to use one of ten 10‘x10’ display walls, and will be given two conference passes, a dedicated page on the conference website, a special feature on both the blog and e-mail newsletter, and be interviewed on the main stage. This exhibition package is valued at $800.

This ain’t no tradeshow – it’s more like an art show meets grade 6 science fair meets idea expo meets artsy-fartsy meet-up with you at the centre of it all! The proposal process is very simple – read more about The Creative Call on the Exhibition page.
